Caritas Freetown and German Doctors for Developing Countries Unite to Aid Flood Victims

Caritas Freetown, in partnership with The German Doctors for Developing Countries, embarked on a compassionate mission on September 11th, 2023, to assist flood victims in Dundas Street, Kroo Bay, and Bololo Communities. Their goal was to alleviate the suffering of 200 households affected by the recent floods.

To ensure efficient aid distribution, Caritas Freetown carefully registered and prioritized the 200 most vulnerable families, with a special focus on households headed by women. Each of these families received essential food supplies, including rice, cooking oil, salt, Maggi cubes, onions, and palm oil. Additionally, 120 women and girls aged 13 and above were provided with dignitary kits.

Ishmeal Alfred Charles, Programs Manager of Caritas Freetown, expressed gratitude to the beneficiaries, emphasizing that this support was an act of love and compassion born out of their dedication to helping those in need. Reverend Father Peter Konteh, Executive Director of Caritas Freetown, reaffirmed their commitment to responding to crises promptly, underscoring their unwavering support.

Fanta Daboh, Country Representative of German Doctors for Developing Countries, joined Caritas Freetown in distributing supplies, emphasizing their dedication to healthcare in Sierra Leone. Their initiative aimed to improve community health and support those affected by flooding.

Mamie Nella Kpaka, a resident of Dundas Street, shared her heartfelt gratitude for the assistance, which has brought immense relief to her family. As a widow and mother of five, this support not only ensures nourishing meals but also contributes to her children’s education. She expressed hope that this vital support would continue to positively impact her family.
