The role of women in global society is often downplayed by the idea of male chauvinism and massive patriarchy. Religion in its widest entirety isn’t much in belief of the power that women possesses.
Many of us see African spirituality as a perfect alternative to religion because it has been a representation of us and it is totally insane to regard the ways of my ancestors as evil or sinister. Also, African Spirituality in reference to gods and goddesses places a high value to goddesses. The goddesses in ancient times were regarded as powerful and supernatural. Thus the contrast and differentiation with Religion.
During the course of slavery, it was women that went through the heinous and most bizarre crimes. The father of Gynecology J. Marion Sims used black women as medical test subjects and experimental objects. African women who served as slaves were hired to breastfed babies of their white masters. Through it all, they still made time to contribute to the life and wellbeing of the society.
It was women during the era of slavery breastfed their husbands who were famished after the day’s work and activities. My point is, men have performed the heinous of crimes in world history. They hold great responsibility for a lot of strife and hardships. But we were meant to believe that “GOD” is of the male gender. These were stories purported when religious missionaries came in. No evidence! No logical explanation!
If we say God is the giver and creator of life, then that God is a woman. It is only a woman that would sacrifice everything for her kids to be happy and fulfilled. It is only a woman that can create life within her and give out life also. It is due to a woman you are alive and kicking.
