Haitian President Jovenel Moise shot dead at his residence

Haitian President Jovenel Moise has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at his residence following recent protests against economic hardships and insecurities. The news was made public by the country’s Interim Prime Minister, Dr Claude Joseph. President Jovenel Moise was shot dead late Tuesday night.

According to Dr Claude Joseph, first lady, Martine Moise also sustained injuries in the process of the assassination and is currently hospitalized.

Dr Claude Joseph stated the gunmen behind the killing of President Jovenel Moise are a commando group with a “foreign element”. He referred to the assassination as a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act.” Dr Claude Joseph added that measures have been put in place to ensure security on the island “all measures are being taken to guarantee the continuity of the state and to protect the nation.”
