Popular Senegalese musician, guitarist, show promoter, and entrepreneur, Djiby Guissè, member of the Les Frères Guissè musical band commonly called Guisse Brothers has been nominated for the 2022 African Genius Awards in Pretoria, South Africa.
The African Genius Award is an annual event by Priority Performance Projects, South Africa, its main aim is to recognize exceptional Africans that are contributing immensely towards the realization of African determination, dignity, and exceptionalism
Born April 13, 1965, in the capital of Senegal, Dakar. Djiby Guisse is an Afro/folk musician, promoter, and entrepreneur. In 1982, he was part of a musical group/band called Jamm Group where he was key to the group’s growth. He took eight years with the group and then later joined another group called Oasis in 1988. He left Oasis in 1991 and co-founded the Les Freres Guisse/Guisse Brothers.
The Guissé Brothers are a group of Senegalese musicians whose musical prowess and exceptional talent have gained them national and international recognition. The band draws the strength, richness, and beauty of their music from the stenches of several unique cultural traditions in the West African nation of Senegal and West Africa at large. Originally, The Guisse Brothers are from the Fouta region, in the north of Senegal. The group comprises of three talented and brilliant musical geniuses: Alioune Guissè, Cheikh Guissè, and Djiby Guissé.
In 2017, he was appointed Adviser to the Director of Arts in Senegal. Djiby Guissèe has composed theme songs for big movies like “Les evils de la hunger” in 2003, “La Maison des Saoud” in 2007, “Cuba, an African Odyssey” in 2010, and “Egypt of the Modern Pharaohs” in 2016. He was the creator, event, and audiovisual artist of Hututsi Production in 2014. As a founding member of the Music Professions Association (AMA), Djiby Guisse served as the president of the Music Professions Association (AMA) from 2012 to 2016. He is also a member of the foundation board of Cheikh Anta Diop University, Senegal, since 2008 to date. He is the founder of the environmental festival, Festivert, to promote awareness about our environment.
As one of the most celebrated Afro/folk singers in Senegal and Africa at large, Djiby Guissè has performed in front of large audiences in Senegal and outside Senegal. He has performed in places and events like:
