Amber Corbett, a Black woman, will represent the United States in the Miss Intercontinental 2023 in Egypt, making her the first Black woman to represent the United States in the competition’s 51-year history.
Amber Corbett was born in New York and now lives in the Bronx. Amber Corbett was recently crowned Miss Intercontinental USA, making history as the first Black Woman to win in 51 years.
“Winning the competition felt like I was breaking a glass ceiling in itself because, in 51 years, there’s never been a Black Miss Intercontinental USA,” Amber Corbett told The Villager.
The crowning ceremony took place during a meet and greet event at the Ready Rooftop in the East Village, where Katherine McQuade, the United States of America’s Miss 2023, crowned Amber Corbett as the new titleholder.
The participants in this year’s pageantry submitted virtual packages instead of competing in person on stage. Regardless of this new change, Corbett’s victory came through and marked a significant breakthrough in the history of pageantry.
Amber Corbett is committed to promoting diversity and representation in the media. With her safe space called “She’s Represented”, she is determined to support and empower women of colour in corporate America.
“I’m planning on doing a safe space and have Zoom calls for women of colour to do networking. Because as a woman of colour in media, it’s such a small industry,” Corbett revealed her future plans.
Amber Corbett graduated cum laude from Pace University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in advertising and integrated marketing communication. She now works as a marketing coordinator in ad sales at NBC Universal Peacock and Scripted Development Division.
Growing up, Amber Corbett was a shy kid. Her mother encouraged her to venture into pageantry to boost her confidence and esteem.
Since the age of 11, Amber Corbett has excelled phenomenally in her passion with multiple laurels under her name, including Miss Galaxy NY 2021, Miss Galaxy NY Teen 2015, Miss Earth NY Teen 2015, Miss United States NY Jr Teen 2015, and IJM Junior Teen 2015.
The Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant, set to begin in October, will see contestants competing for the title of Miss “Power of Beauty.”
