2022 African Genius Awards – Meet The Nominees

The African Genius Awards is one of the biggest Awards in Africa that takes place annually. The awards event is to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate African geniuses whose extraordinary display of brilliance has helped solved pressing issues in their countries and communities.

The first edition of African Genius Awards took place on May 25 this year at the prestigious University of Pretoria, South Africa. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and regulations, the awards were held virtually. Three African geniuses were announced as winners from the dozens of nominations received. These individuals, past and present, in one way or another, have contributed immensely to the development of their countries and communities through activism, business, and literature. These three men (Aliko Dangote, Steve Biko, and Chinua Achebe) awarded by African Genius Awards are amongst the most celebrated and the most popular Africans in Africa and beyond.

Below are the nominees for the 2022 African Genius Awards:

1. Waterz Yidana – Mr Waterz Yidana is a Ghanaian multiple award-winning playwright & poet. He has written several articles and essays that border on social, political, & religious issues.

2. Nana Kwame Bediako – Mr Nana Kwame Bediako has been a successful developer in the Ghanaian real estate space for nearly 20 years. He has designed and constructed over 500 residential and retail units across the nation in pursuit of a vision to change the face of industrialization in Ghana.

3. Osaretin Agbonavbare – Mr Osaretin Agbonavbare is a Human-computer Interaction Specialist. Founder of Broadband Career Management in AI, Co-founder Boldpay Investment Ltd. He is currently working on using Artificial Intelligence for the recruitment of personnel as dissertation.

4. Wesley Ndiath – Mr Wesley Ndiath was born in Senegal but is now based in the US. He runs a Nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment with a focus on Africa.

5. Wiselady Marikhela – Ms. Wiselady Marikhela is an entrepreneur, nurse, and ECD practitioner who is pursuing her LLB Degree. After discovering a huge gap in the market for handmade products for African skin that do not have chemicals or harsh products, she saw an opportunity to give women a healthier alternative for clear and glowing skin by starting a skin care line called Nakie Skincare.

6. Ignitius Botswele Molepo – Mr Ignitius Botswele Molepo is a passionate network security engineer who believes he has the necessary knowledge and skill to resolve any complex networking issue.

7. Ishmael Alfred Charles – Mr Ishmael Alfred Charles is a former child soldier of Sierra Leone. Charles, now 29, helps Sierra Leoneans struggling in poverty as the country recovers from civil war. He’s also the co-founder of the Sick Pikin Project. He has inspired so many people in Sierra Leone both young and old through his method of service and commitment while working with poor and needy people. He is a worthy figure to emulate as he is very influential in his own unique way.

8. Jeremiah Thoronka – Mr Jeremiah Thoronka is a leading youth renewable energy Entrepreneur, environment enthusiast, & scholar with proven years of expertise in creating & researching new energy technologies, policies, & programs. Jeremiah Thoronka developed a more sustainable energy system. Thoronka’s energy solution was to invent a device that would provide people in his community with clean, affordable and reliable energy. Jeremiah Thoronka founded Optim Energy, an innovative start-up that uses kinetic energy – the energy objects have when in motion – to generate clean electricity, when he was 17 and studying at the African Leadership University in Rwanda.
