A Sierra Leonean by the name of Hafiz Alhassan Kanu has created an app called Supfrica and it’s two times faster than WhatsApp. Supfrica boasts of having improved features such as cheaper, faster and more audible video and voice call alongside being able to forward messages to more than 100 contacts at once, and it allows up to 500k members in a group.
Supfrica is messaging app that has similar features with WhatsApp, or perhaps more improved features than WhatsApp. Sending a message on Supfrica is faster than sending a message on WhatsApp. A voice and video call in Africa is of high quality just like WhatsApp. The app is created by Techfrica, a technology company owned by Mr Hafiz.
The company, Techfrica, which is owned by Mr Hassan Hafiz Bakarr-Kanu Sr., released the app on Google Play Store on December 11, 2020, with fewer downloads. The App became known to Sierra Leoneans when Salone Messenger broke the silence on the 5th of January in a Facebook post which went viral on Facebook. The first beta test app got over 100,000 downloads on Google Play Store before releasing the Supfrica Version 2.0
The first version of the app was rated number 1 on Google Play Store Top Free Apps; leading the world’s top messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, Telegram, WeChat, etc. Today, the Supfrica Version 2.0 app has reached thousands of downloads on Google Play Store; making it the fastest app made by a Sierra Leonean to climax that far, and one of the most talked-about apps in Sierra Leone and Africa as a whole.
Speaking to PanAfrican Daily TV, Mr Hafiz said that he created the app as he saw a gap in the market for African technology consumers. “We want to create an app by Africans for Africans and eventually get it to be used globally,” said Mr Hafiz.
Hafiz moved to the United States with his mother when he was nine years old. He was driven by the desire to build Supfrica to compete with industry giants while also giving voice to the continent’s young tech geniuses.
