Burkina Faso has launched the construction of 55 new hospital facilities and 5 intensive care units to boost healthcare access. This ambitious project is part of the Presidential Health Initiative (IPS), launched by President Ibrahim Traoré to enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services across all 13 regions.
The initiative includes transforming 55 Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) into communal medical centers, aiming to provide comprehensive medical services nationwide. Additionally, the plan involves constructing and equipping five new anesthesia-resuscitation departments in various hospitals.
In 2025, the government plans to establish approximately 20 of these medical centers, along with two hemodialysis units, five resuscitation blocks, and a heart institute. The initiative also aims to introduce molecular diagnostics for breast cancer to enhance early detection and treatment.
To support these developments, the Burkinabè government has allocated 12% of the national budget to the Ministry of Health, focusing on upgrading hospital equipment, reducing costs for medical examinations, and acquiring advanced medical technologies.
