A Star Is Born: Two Goals In His First International Debut For Sierra Leone, 19-year-old Kallum Sesay Shines Against Congo

For every football player it is a dream to represent their home country on the international stage, and what would make it more interesting is scoring in your first appearance for your home country. Well, 19-year-old Kallum Sesay is living his dream scoring two goals in his first international debut for Sierra Leone against the Leopards of Congo.

Kallum Sesay, 19, scored the first goal for Sierra Leone against Congo in the Antalya Cup in Turkey. The 19-year-old opened the scoring with a penalty in the 53rd minute before adding another wonderful goal in the 64th minute. It is his first international debut for Sierra Leone, a day that he will forever cherish.

19-year-old Kallum Sesay has performed consistently and impressively well as a full-back for the Tottenham U23 team this season, making 21 appearances in all competitions and earning a place on the first-team bench twice in the UEFA Europa Conference League, having also featured for the senior side in two pre-season friendlies.

I didn’t believe it first of all when I got the call-up but I’m very, very happy and very excited. I have no clue how it came about, they (the Sierra Leone Football Association) just sent an email out of the blue – I didn’t know anything about it and I was as surprised and delighted as my family was! It’s definitely a good experience but now I need to work hard, try to get in the team and just keep doing my best. Because it’s my first call-up, I feel like I’ve got the most to prove. I have to do everything right – I’ve got to train and play well, do the right things off the pitch, recover properly… I’ve got to make an impression and show that I’m there for the next call-up if that comes – Kallum Sesay speaking to Tottenham Hotspurs on his call up to play for Sierra Leone

But who is Kallum Sesay, Sierra Leone’s new kid on the block?

Born 4th September 2002 in Newham, England, to Sierra Leonean parents. Kallu Xzeiba Tracey Sesay plays both Central midfield and full back for Tottenham Hotspur Under 23. Basically, the 19-year-old is primarily a right-back, but he is also capable of playing on the opposite flank at left-back and as a central midfielder. Kallum Sesay grew up in Newham where he attended the Eden SDA School. Kallum Sesay at young age represented Newham at District Level Football League and has previously played for one of the biggest clubs in London, West Ham United. After a successful stint with West Ham United, Kallum Sesay signed scholarship forms with Spurs for the start of the 2019/20 season.

The 19-year-old is a boxing enthusiast. He has a keen interest in boxing which makes him a perfect fit at full-back. Kallum Sesay’s athleticism attributes have contributed a lot to the Tottenham Hotspurs Under 18 side. He has been an important player and regular for Spurs’ Under 18 side over the course of the last two seasons. During his first season full-time at Spurs Under 18, 19-year-old Kallum Sesay who primarily plays as a right-back (he can also play at left-back and in central midfield) made 11 league appearances for Spurs at the Under 18 level (he also featured in a pre-season friendly for the Under 23’s against Enfield Town), and he also featured in the FA Youth Cup and Premier League Cup for Spurs at Under 18 level during the same season.

The 19-year-old Impressed throughout the 2019/2020 season at both right-back and in central midfield scoring two league goals. His impressive form continued in the 2020/2021 season having made 18 competitive appearances scoring four goals and registering four assists.

Kallum Sesay established himself as an important player of the Spurs Under 18 side. His impressive and successful stint with the Under 18 earned him a call up to the Under 23 team. Kallum Sesay made his first competitive debut for Spurs’ Under 23 side in a 3-0 Premier League 2 win over Manchester United U23. Sesay was impressive in his first competitive debut for the U23. His astute performance earned him a call up to the Tottenham Hotspur first team. The 19-year-old started in his first game for Tottenham Hotspur against Leyton Orient in the 2021/2022 pre-season. He also came off the bench to feature against Colchester United in a pre-season friendly.

Kallum Sesay is one of the most versatile young defenders of our time. His ability and effectiveness to adapt to any playing position is admirable. The young defender is effective at both ends of the pitch and can create chances in the opposition box. His drive to score a goal, as a defender, is rare to see. He loves scoring goals, that is something you are less likely to see in a defender. He does not only score goals and delivers assists, but he is also a very intelligent defender whose defending techniques have caught the eyes of football-loving fans. He is tall with a great amount of pace, his crosses to the opposition box are poisonous, his clearances are life-saving, he is strong in the challenge and not afraid to make sliding challenges, he is difficult to get past and can give opposition wingers difficult games, his runs are Mbaperous (A new word, though. lol) – he can stop and win a play and can score, he is the Sierra Leone Roberto Carlos.
