Churboii KMK – The Sierra Leonean Prodigy Making Waves In The Entertainment Industry

Kabba Mahuma Kanu, who goes by the stage name, Churboii KMK, is a dynamic Afro-beat singer, songwriter and rapper who has unrelentingly wooed the listening ears of fans and supporters through his music. Born on the 24th November, at the western rural part of Freetown, Gloucester Village, Churboii KMK attained his Junior secondary education at the Rokel Secondary School and furthered his Senior secondary education into the Sierra Leone Grammar School. According to Churboii KMK, he fell in love with music in his early schooling life of Prep 2. He grew up listening to prominent artists both Sierra Leonean and Nigerian like Shadow Boxxer, 441 groups, Shine D God Son, K MAN, Alonzo, Wizkid, Olamide, Sarkodie and Christopher Martin among others.

He started rapping in junior school but it was only for the sake of leisure and merry. He fully engaged in music when he transitioned into secondary school. He garnered attention and respect from his peers who had spotted his unrivalled talent and this gave him the motivation, courage, and zest to pursue his dream of doing music.

KMK’s first studio recording was in 2016 titled “Playboy” where he featured one of the most talented high school singers at that time, Boiza. The recording consequently propelled him to fame and recognition among his associates and schoolmates. Another productive spell that pushed him into the limelight was the “Catch a wave challenge” – a freestyle competition organized by Nashito Kulala, a Disc Jockey (DJ). His freestyle delivery was mainly applauded by listeners because of his fluency in rhyming with the beat and his harmonious flexibility. His established music genre is Afrobeat, Afropop, and Afrodancehall.

The young prodigy has gone on to release more than 15 songs including his recent widely acclaimed EP project, “Never Back Down”. The EP contains songs with relatively important and explicit messages for the young generation and those striving to work hard. Songs like; Never back down – explains the mentality of reaching greater heights through hard work and tireless efforts, Jah love, The Boy, and Idler to name but a few.

“Music means a lot to me. My dream is to uplift Sierra Leone music to the highest level possible by the grace of God and with everybody’s support because definitely, I have the talent, passion, and vision. I envisage being heavily comfortable and famous and I aspire to make my family proud of me”, KMK told The African Dream.
