Sierra Leonean defender Osman Kakay has been declared fit to play against Ivory Coast after a Covid-19 retest was done this morning and it came back negative.

This morning, in a tweet, SLFA confirmed that ”following a restest control conducted this morning on Osman Kakay and David Sesay, SLFA is pleased to announce that Kakay has therefore rejoined the Leone Stars 23-man squad ahead of today’s encounter against Ivory Coast”.

Four days after the match against Alegria, holding the defending champions to an impressive goalless draw, The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on Saturday, confirmed that two players, David Sesay and Osman Kakay, have tested positive for COVID-19 amid the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). SLFA went on to state that the two players will not be part of the team to face two-time AFCON champions Ivory Coast.

Osman Kakay, who plays for Queens Park Rangers in the English Championship was instrumental against Algeria, displaying a stunning defensive performance against the likes of Riyadh Mahrez. The defender received positive praises from football-loving fans across the world and suddenly become the tournament’s ‘‘defender to watch”. Kakay’s impressive form has earned him high praises from Sierra Leoneans home and abroad and many are hoping to see the defender play against The Elephants of Ivory Coast with another eye-catching performance.
