Egypt defeat Cameroon on penalties to reach AFCON 2021 final

Seven times African Cup of Nations Champions Egypt make it to the Africa Cup of Nations final for the 10th time after defeating host Cameroon on penalties (Egypt 3-1 Cameroon). Egypt avenges their defeat by Cameroon in the 2017 African Cup of Nations final in Gabon.

Two big saves from Mohamed Abou Gabaski in the penalty shootout helped the Pharaohs of Egypt defeat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the semi-final of Afcon 2021. Gabaski made two vital saves against Cameroon to give his team the advantage. Misses from Clinton N’Jie, James Lea Siliki and Harold Moukoudi sent Cameroon out of the competition. The competition’s highest goal scorer Vincent Abou Bacarr is the only Cameroon player to score from the penalty shootout.

Egypt will now play the Teranga Lions of Senegal, who made it to their two successive AFCON finals defeating Burkina Faso 3-1 in the semi-finals of the competition. The two teams with two of the English Premier League lethal forwards Sadio Manè and Mo Salah will battle for the continental trophy on Sunday.
