Ghanaian actor and comedian based in the United States, Michael Blackson has opened his own school in his village in Ghana, which will offer free tuition to all its students. The school, which he named ‘Michael Blackson Academy,’ is located in his hometown of Agona Nsaba, a town in the Central Region of Ghana.

The Michael Blackson Academy is a three-storey building that has multiple modern classrooms and other amenities. The school, which first went under construction in 2020, was completed in December and is scheduled to open this month for learning.

Blackson took to his Twitter account to announce what he says is his most meaningful feat. “Today is the greatest day of my life because I’ve finally accomplished what I always wanted to do which is giving these kids a chance to be great,” Blackson tweeted. “Greatness starts with education and foundational education shouldn’t come with financial barriers.”

The Ghanian-American, who immigrated to Philadelphia from his native country, attended a ceremony on Tuesday to cut a ribbon commemorating the school’s opening (Jan. 3). Blackson released a video of the joyful occasion, which featured speeches, a tour of the facility, live performances, and other events.

The well-known actor and comedian has already expressed his gratitude for his fans’ and followers’ support throughout his career, whose contributions made it possible for him to realize his ambition.

“Finally, it’s all done and the kids in my village will all go to school for free,” he said. “Thanks to all my fans that supported me thru out the years, every ticket you bought to my show helped a kid.”
