Lagos, Nigeria, is one of Africa’s busiest cities with a population of 15,388,000+ people., and also the continent’s largest city – this makes Lagos the capital of traffic in Africa. The city is synonymous with heavy traffic and congestion. But a self-taught innovator and inventor, Kehinde Durojaiye is on the verge of solving the city’s greatest puzzle: decongesting Lagos traffic.
Kehinde Durojaiye, father of four, nicknamed ‘Kenny jet,’ is a 50-year-old self-taught inventor and maker of the ‘aero-amphibious jet car’ that can run on land, sea and in the air using petrol and solar energy. According to Kehinde, his aero-amphibious jet car is very fast as it can run at 120 kilometres per hour using petrol and also solar-powered energy. In an interview with CNN, Kehinde said he has tested the car in the sea. “I tested it in the sea and a lot of people were surprised it can move on the land and sea,” he said. “That’s one of those things that amazes people.”
Kehinde Durojaiye has been an inventor and innovator since childhood. He spends most of his time at his workshop, which is located on a dumpsite next to the Lagos lagoon. Kehinde has over the years made four prototype cars from trash materials like wood, plastic, metals, and styrofoam. Kehinde would spend hours working and testing his aero-amphibious jet car hoping that one day he would fly it in the air, and drive it on land and sea.
