Outrage in South Africa as white South African student urinates on a black student’s books and laptop

South Africa

After a video of a white student peeing on a black student’s computer and books went viral on social media, Stellenbosch University in the Western Cape has come under fire.

The incident allegedly occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in Huise Maria’s apartment, while the black first-year student was sleeping.

“Why are you peeing in my room?” asks an off-camera pupil. “I’m waiting for someone,” says the young man with short brown hair and a beige hooded jacket, without halting what he’s doing.

In a statement released Monday, the institution “strongly condemns this destructive, hateful, and discriminatory conduct.”

The institution reported that the first-year student who was caught in the act had been suspended immediately.

Vice-president Wim de Villiers remarked, “We are outraged by this type of behaviour.” “No student has the right to disrespect another student’s dignity or rights in this manner.”

The victim was sleeping “when he heard a commotion in his room,” according to a student union.

“When he awoke, the racist white boy was urinating on his desk, books, and laptop,” according to the Congress of South African Students, and when questioned, “the racist response was that this is what we do to black boys.”

The university’s student representatives said that the episode was typical of the “evil inflicted on minorities, notably black students here” by the university’s white majority in a black-majority country.

On Monday, there were protests on campus, with students of all races taking part.

According to local media on Tuesday, the family of a 20-year-old black student who was the victim of a suspected racial incident at the University has announced that they will file a criminal complaint against the alleged offender.
