Sierra Leonean Doctor Named 2023 Viral Hepatitis Elimination Champion

Sierra Leone’s Dr. Manal Ghazzawi has been named as one of the 2023 Viral Hepatitis Elimination Champions by the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE).

Dr. Ghazzawi is a Sierra Leonean pharmacist and community health specialist.

She is the lead coordinator of the KnowHep Foundation, a foundation that provides community engagement, education, and advocacy — from grassroots campaigns, town hall meetings, engaging youth in unconventional settings, and media sensitization to disseminating health-related information.

Her pharmacy, CitiGlobe Pharmacy, provides accessible screenings and vaccines for Hepatitis B patients.

As Hepatitis B is on the rise in Sierra Leone, CitiGlobe Pharmacy prioritizes ttesting and treatment for underserved populations in Sierra Leone through workshops and policy advocacy.

The Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination praised Dr. Ghazzawi’s unwavering commitment, dedication, and determination, stating that her “exceptional accomplishments truly set her apart.”

Dr. Manal Ghazzawi’s untiring commitment to paving the way for the elimination of hepatitis in Sierra Leone is unquantifiable. She is one of the global champions of the viral hepatitis virus and her commitment to the fight against the virus has proven rewarding.
