“We can collapse the pound and dollar if Africa unites” – Julius Malema

South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, Julius Malema, said Africa “can collapse the pound and dollar” if Africa unites and forms the United States of Africa.

Malema said this in a one-on-one discussion with Candid Africa. Malema insisted that instead of [Africa] always depending on the West for economic growth, a united Africa can collapse the foreign currencies of the West.

Malema continued by saying Europeans and Americans thrive on the division of Africans, and that is why they always do not want to see Africans unite.

“I have no time for borders; I have no time for colonialism. There are no borders in Europe, but when it comes to us, they say, ‘No, you must have borders.’ Why? The division of Africa is what makes them thrive. They benefit from a divided African continent,” said Malema.

Julius Malema also pointed out the exploitation of Africa’s mineral resources by the West and the vast natural wealth in the DR Congo, but yet still, they are poor.

“Imagine the minerals of the Democratic Republic of Congo combined with those of South Africa and a new currency backed by these minerals. Think of what we could do to the dollar if we became the United States of Africa, powered by our resources alone. We could collapse the dollar. We could collapse the strong British pound, which is backed by gold, even though they don’t have a single gold mine. So, why do we continue to allow this?” Malema added.

Malema has been one of South Africa’s most vocal opposition leaders. The former ANC politician, now leader of the EFF has, numerous times, called for the creation of a United States of Africa and a borderless Africa.
