2021 BEACH SOCCER WORLD CUP – No medal for Africa

Senegal lost this Sunday to Switzerland by 9-7. A stinging setback that deprives the Lions and the African continent of a first medal in the beach soccer world cup.

Africa will still have to wait to win its first world medal in beach soccer. Indeed, Senegal on which rested all the hopes of a medal of the black continent bowed down in front of Switzerland (9-7).

As in the semi-final, Ibrahima Baldé’s partners lost the last two thirds (3-3, 3-2, 3-2). If the Swiss have delivered a top-of-the-range service, on the other hand, arbitration is far from it. The referee has taken decisions several times that make people talk especially about the 7th Swiss achievement where the ball bounced off the goal line.

Thus, Ngalla Sylla’s men miss the opportunity to make up for their lost semi-final against Japan, but also the opportunity to offer Africa its first world medal.

In the absence of a medal, Senegal can console themselves on an individual level. Indeed, the Lions striker, Raoul Mendy (7 goals) won the Bronze Ball. In other words, he was voted 3rd best player in the competition.

In addition, this 21st edition of the Beach Soccer World Cup was completed by the clear victory of Russia in the final ahead of Japan (5-2). The host country wins its third World Cup.
