Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, a Taiwanese foundation that has been contributing to better social and community services, medical care, education and humanism in Taiwan and around the world, supports Partnering to Serve Humanity in alleviating the sufferings of victims of the fire disaster in Gloucester, Freetown.
It would be recalled that on March 30 at Loko Town, Gloucester community was engulfed by an inferno leaving 36 households and 288 individuals homeless with all their properties lost.
The cause of the fire is unknown as it occurred at 2 AM.
Today with support from Tzu Chi Foundation, Partnering to Serve Humanity is providing relief for these affected persons. This is coming after a total of 14 days of serving hotmeal to the victims.
The appreciation expressed by the victims for the hotmeal feeding is overwhelming, as many shared emotional testimonies of how useful the feeding has been to them and their children. This support is approved by Dharma Master Cheng Yen the Founder of Tzu Chi Foundation.
“Today the relief items which we are giving as an exit support is a demonstration of great love”, Said Margaret Bassie, Tzu Chi Country Representative in Sierra Leone.
36 Victim’s families received Tzu Chi specially made blankets, multigrain powder a high protein porridge, and 50 kilograms of rice per family. 20 Under five children received baby food, diapers, and baby milk formula while 186 women and girls received dignity kits comprising sanitary pads, laundry, bathing, lappa, slippers, underwear, toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, and 3 sets of used clothing each.
