Chinese doctors provide free treatment for schoolchildren in Sierra Leone

On Thursday, the 24th batch of the Chinese medical team in Sierra Leone provided medical treatment to several school-going children in Jui, a town in Sierra Leone’s Western Area.

The free clinical outreach at Simas pre-elementary and junior secondary schools includes a variety of checks ranging from physicals to ophthalmic examinations.

After the outreach, Liu Qiuhong, a member of the Chinese medical team, told Xinhua that the youngsters were mostly healthy, but that some had malaria, a tropical disease common in West Africa.

Liu promised that the team would do everything possible to provide additional free medical services to citizens in the surrounding communities.

Melrose During, a midwife at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, complimented the Chinese doctors for their thoughtful gesture, saying the checkup allowed the children to better understand their physical health and obtain medical care on time.

Victoria Jah, the school’s principal, thanked the Chinese doctors for their unselfish assistance to the students. “I feel so blessed and honoured that out of many schools, our school was chosen for the free clinic outreach.”
