Kechi Okwuchi is a Nigerian-American Singer, Songwriter, Business Consultant, Inspirational Speaker, and the Author of ‘More Than My Scars.’
In 2005, Okwuchi was involved in a devastating plane crash in Nigeria that left her with burns that affected her appearance. However, it didn’t deter her from earning an MBA graduate with distinction among other notable achievements.
The 10th of December, 2005, was a fateful day in the life of Kechi Okwuchi. She was one of the two survivors in the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash that claimed 107 lives, 59 of which were her schoolmates from Loyola Jesuit College.
She sustained 3rd degree burns over 65% of her body and was given a 30% chance of survival.
Okwuchi was air-lifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa for immediate medical attention and treatment, and later to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, United States, where she went through over 100 reconstructive surgeries.
She resumed high school in 2009 and graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a First Class Degree in Economics in 2015. She got invited into six honour societies, including the International Economics Honour Society.
2019 was a groundbreaking year for Owuchi as she became a finalist on America’s Got Talent: The Champions through Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer.
Kechi recently obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Economics with distinction from the University of St. Thomas (TX).
