“No minerals will leave Botswana unprocessed” – Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko

Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko has officially declared that under his administration, no minerals will be exported from Botswana without undergoing local processing.

In a recent statement, President Boko boldy said, “We are moving to a point where no mineral will leave this country without being processed.”

He also mentioned that diamonds will be cut and polished domestically, and copper concentrates will undergo local value addition before export.

“No diamond will leave this country raw. All will be cut and polished here. No copper concentrate will be exported without local value addition,” he said.

Botswana is the largest diamond exporter in Africa and the sixth in the world.

In 2024, approximately 80% of Botswana’s total export revenue came from diamonds.
