Rwanda Launches Africa’s First Self-Flying Electric Air Taxi

Rwanda has made history by unveiling Africa’s first self-flying electric air taxi in Kigali.

The live demonstration took place at the Aviation Africa 2025 Summit in Kigali, where the aircraft completed its maiden public flight before industry leaders and government officials.

The project is being developed in partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation and will be operated by Chinese drone technology firm EHang.

Authorities say the autonomous aircraft is designed to ease urban congestion while offering a sustainable alternative to conventional transport.

Rwanda has invested heavily in positioning itself as a testbed for innovative technologies, particularly in transport and logistics.

Officials say the air taxi project underscores the country’s commitment to building future-ready infrastructure, connecting communities, and attracting international investment.
