Meet Fezile Dhlamini, the South African engineer who builds electric scooters from scratch

Fezile Dhlamini

Soweto-born Fezile Dhlamini is the founder of Green Scooters, Africa’s first all-electric e-hailing network and a proudly South African company, as well as Scooter Treats, a related online food delivery business.

In terms of the most recent innovations in urban transportation and renewable energy, Green Scooter is a pioneer. The company creates a distinctive line of electric scooters for both commuting and freight use.

The Zbee, a three-wheeled electric vehicle, is targeted at people looking to purchase a reasonably priced electric car for short- to medium-distance travel as well as regular commuters who need a last-mile trip. A driver and two passengers may ride in it.

Instead of passenger seats, the Zbee Cargo incorporates a secure cargo area that may be utilised for short deliveries.

When fully charged, the scooter takes about three-and-a-half hours and can cover a range of over 100km.

The scooters, which are produced locally with a Swedish company serving as a technical partner, are an ecologically friendly alternative to normal metered taxis or e-hail services because they are powered by standard electrical outlets.

Dhlamini is dedicated to bringing about eco-friendly transformations in the transportation business; he claims he came up with the idea for Green Scooter after being turned down for many employment opportunities by Uber.

Green Scooter has sold or leased 60 vehicles since its inception in 2018, and the pace is picking up as gasoline costs rise. It’s no surprise that Dhlamini’s motto is “nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae fuit” — “nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae fuit” — “nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae fuit.”
